Meaco Arete Two 12L review: a research-based assessment

A compact compressor assessment drawn from the exact UK specifications and instructions.

Our answer

The Arete Two 12L is our first research shortlist choice for modest humidity in a heated small flat or bedroom. Its lower fan setting is quoted at 35 dB(A), and Meaco publishes output at realistic room conditions. The limits are its smaller tank, lower cold-room output and audible stronger settings.

What makes it worth shortlisting

Meaco provides extraction and power together at several temperature/RH conditions. That is more useful than a headline capacity alone. Night Mode darkens the controls and reduces high fan speed to low; app and voice control provide another way to set the appliance, though neither is required to read a room humidity meter.

The HEPA option makes this a dual-purpose air purifier, but that mode is different from collecting water. We do not claim a health outcome or independently measured filtration result.

Where it fits

For a normally heated bedroom, a pre-bedtime session can be more comfortable than trying to sleep with any fan running. In a small flat, the smaller body and 10.9 kg weight can be useful. It still needs a stable, safe position, and the clothes rack has its own footprint. See our bedroom guide and small-flat shortlist.

Where we would compare something else

For frequent bulky laundry, compare the Arete Two 20L and its 4.8 L tank. At 10°C/60% RH, the 12L’s quoted extraction is only 1.97 L/day, so a suitable cool-room desiccant may better match an extraction priority. Neither the 12L name nor a stated operating range guarantees fast winter rack drying.

Ownership and drainage

Follow the 10L/12L manual for placement, filter cleaning and Night/Laundry Mode. The dust screen and HEPA cartridge have different maintenance rules. Gravity drainage uses the appropriate adaptor and a downhill hose; the optional pump listed for larger Arete sizes should not be assumed compatible with the 12L.

Electricity and value

Six hours continuously at 136 W would use 0.816 kWh, around 21.5p at the dated 26.32p/kWh illustration. Actual sampling, cycling and conditions change the outcome. Check the calculator using your own tariff. We would compare delivered price and warranty terms rather than infer value from a temporary discount badge.

Our assessment

A sensible first comparison for modest heated-room moisture when space and low-mode noise matter. Choose a larger or different technology only when the workload or temperature justifies it. This is a desk-researched assessment; we have not performed our own drying, acoustics or longevity test.
