Meaco Arete Two 20L review: a research-based assessment

A higher-capacity compressor assessment for heated-room laundry and more demanding moisture routines.

Our answer

The Arete Two 20L is our first research shortlist choice for repeated indoor laundry in a heated room when its size is practical. Its 4.8 L tank and higher airflow are useful features. The strongest fan is quoted at 50 dB(A), so laundry performance and quiet bedroom operation should be treated separately.

Its useful strengths

The 4.8 L tank is almost twice the 12L version’s 2.5 L tank, though collection speed and emptying frequency depend on conditions. The third fan speed and adjustable louvre offer more directed airflow for a properly spaced rack. App, voice and timer controls can make the routine convenient; they do not prove lower session energy.

Meaco’s detailed condition table is a strength of the evidence. At 20°C/60% RH it states 8.50 L/day, rather than the 20.45 L/day achieved at 30°C/80%. We use the realistic-condition figures when assessing a heated UK room.

The limitations to consider

At 15.1 kg and 618 mm tall, it is a substantial portable appliance. The strongest mode is much louder in the published figures than its low setting. Cold-room extraction falls to 3.35 L/day at 10°C/60% RH; a suitable desiccant has a different cold-output/power trade-off.

There is no hands-on evidence here that establishes a fixed laundry time, whole-home coverage or a minimum electricity bill. Rack spacing, starting water and target dryness still matter.

Should you buy the older One instead?

The Arete One versus Two comparison uses the 20L versions of both. The Two adds control and airflow features while the matched 20°C power reduction is 9 W. A discounted One can still be reasonable if you do not need the additions. Small electricity savings alone are not a strong reason to pay a large premium.

Maintenance and drainage

Use the exact 20L/25L manual. Clean the dust filter as directed and treat the HEPA cartridge separately. Gravity drainage needs a downhill path. Meaco lists an optional pump for 18L/20L/25L Arete models; confirm its fitting and instructions before installation. A drain hose does not supersede safe operating guidance.

Running cost example

Six continuously active hours at 207 W use 1.242 kWh, around 32.7p at the dated 26.32p/kWh example. This is a scenario, not the cost of a completed laundry load. Use your tariff and actual runtime for a more relevant estimate.

Our assessment

Worth shortlisting for regular heated-room laundry when space and tank capacity matter more than minimum size. Compare the 12L for modest workloads and the OmniDry if price or footprint makes it attractive. This review is based on published evidence, without our own drying or noise tests.
