Our answer
For regular laundry in a heated room, the Meaco Arete Two 20L is our first shortlist choice for its published 20°C output, 4.8 L tank and stronger laundry airflow. The 12L is the smaller alternative. In a genuinely cool suitable room, compare a desiccant such as the DD8L Pro before assuming a compressor is the right fit.
The shortlist
| Model | Best fit in this shortlist | Evidence and limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Arete Two 20L | Frequent laundry in a heated room | 8.50 L/day at 20°C/60% RH; 207 W at that condition. 4.8 L tank. Strongest setting 50 dB(A). |
| Arete Two 12L | Smaller space or lighter workload | 5.40 L/day at 20°C/60%; 136 W. Smaller 2.5 L tank and 35–44 dB(A) by fan setting. |
| DD8L Pro | Cool indoor utility space | High: 6.89 L/day at 10°C/60%, 630 W. Useful output with a substantial power trade-off. |
| OmniDry 20L | Alternative to compare on current price and fit | 4 L tank and app controls. No comparable 20°C/60% extraction table established; manual prohibits unattended use. |
Why we start with the Arete Two 20L
For a repeated rack-drying workload, its 4.8 L tank can reduce emptying compared with the 12L’s 2.5 L tank. The third fan setting offers 255 m³/h of stated airflow, though it is also the noisiest at 50 dB(A). The adjustable louvre and laundry setting help direct air towards an appropriately spaced rack.
The choice is conditional: there must be room for the machine, rack and safe access. We have not measured how quickly it dries a particular wash load, and the 20L name is not a promise of 20 litres collected in an ordinary home each day.
When the 12L is enough to compare first
The smaller Arete occupies H472 × W319 × D237 mm and weighs 10.9 kg, against H618 × W366 × D272 mm and 15.1 kg for the 20L. That matters in a compact flat. Its 136 W figure at 20°C/60% is lower, but a lower hourly figure does not guarantee lower energy for the same completed load. Our capacity comparison explains the difference.
For a cool room, do not ignore desiccants
At 10°C/60% RH, the DD8L Pro’s high setting is stated at 6.89 L/day versus the Arete Two 20L’s 3.35 L/day. Its power is 630 W versus 176 W at that condition. If cool-room extraction is the priority, the higher output may be useful, but budget for the electricity and follow the shutdown cooldown. Compare all three desiccant options rather than infer that an 8L badge makes it smaller in every practical sense.
What would make OmniDry the better purchase?
A lower actual delivered price, a body that fits your available space and controls you prefer could make it worth considering. However, its product-page energy claim is not a matched extraction/power table, and the linked UK manual says never to leave it unattended. We would not recommend it for an unsupervised overnight drying arrangement. Read the direct comparison before deciding.
Make the rack setup part of the decision
A rack filled edge-to-edge with folded thick fabric can limit progress regardless of the machine. Follow the positioning guide, leave gaps, use the permitted spin speed and check bulky seams for dryness. For a home that processes frequent towels and bedding, also compare a heat-pump dryer.
How these picks were selected
These are research-based recommendations from manufacturer tables, exact manuals and UK household guidance. We have not performed hands-on drying or noise tests. We do not use a headline rating, a retailer star score or an affiliate payment as proof of performance. Current offers and warranty terms should be checked before purchase.
